Hi John apparently it first appeared in a Belgium aviary and susequent offspring where sent to France were it was then put to a dominant silver variety and ended up with what they have called a Black Headed sounds inapproriate to me i perhaps would have called it a Masked Variety, as soon as i get photos i will try and publish them, cheers Frank

frank, thanks for showing us.
if you bred that as a dark grey and got rid of the white wing stripes it'd almost be all black.

Well if that's the best they have to offer then they can keep it. I have a wf pied that is a dirty-face that is not unlike that........I look on the dirty-face as inferior pieds so i guess that about sums up my feelings on it. Thanks for the pics Frank and keeping us up front with whats happening out in the big wide world. Maybe over time and selective breeding this new mutation may become a bit more appealing.....lets hope so! Jo-Anne

Hi Jo-Anne I was sitting back studying the phootos thinking where could you go with these varieties and the only thought that crossed my mind was a Clear Pied (Totally Yellow Bird) with a Black Head Hmmmm....! cheers Frank

Same as Jo-anne - my WF Pied male has a all white face with a black cheek patch. Nothing unusual about that, I see it quite frequently in both WF and normal pieds. Usually 'dirty' pieds carry this, where the pied pattern is not clean sections of black and white. Also wf hens have little white on the face.
Perhaps this is more of a case of selective breeding to produce birds with more black on the face - but the darker charcoal colour on the bird on the right is interesting, its certainly a darker bird.
I'd be interested to know if they have bred the mutation out and the tried to reproduce the results in the second or third generation?
- Claire

Thanks for the pics frank. i would have to say yuck yuck yuck & i like most of the mutations of tiels. They look like they could do with some meat on their bones too. My babys are fatter than them lol. Now if it was a really dark grey & a bit more meat on them then it might look good, otherwise i would have to agree with the term dirty looking. Anyway thanks for providing us with these pics 7 info. Cheers for now Anna

Thanks for the insight Frank. I think I have to agree with everyone else here and say they don't really appeal to me. They look like they have stuck their head up a chimney! I like the silver but with the "black head" it just dirties them and makes them look a bit mismatched.
Be interesting to see what else they have in the pipelines at the moment.

Now that may be an interesting bird Frank. A rich deep yellow with a black head may look quite stunning actually. Maybe it is the silver that makes the bird look almost 'anaemic'...for want of a better word. Looks so plae and washed out but a clear pied? ...hmmm.......that would be worth seeing! Jo-Anne
