I wonder if there is a time from when the birds actually mate and when the hen lays. I saw a Pied Cock mating with a Cinnamon hen this morning and the white face pair i got a week ago were supposed to have mated a couple of days before i purchased them, she has already selected a nesting box and is showing a lot of interest in laying. So is there any specific time frame from mating to laying? and am i right in saying that the babies from the Pied / Cinnamon pair will be Cinnamon pieds?  . John |

Normaly it is about 10 days after they copulate...When they laid there first egg...

Hi John,
I don't know if this is 100% correct but i've been told that after mating it takes a week for an egg to be laid.
and also if i remember correctly with your pied/cinnamon pair i was told any cinnamon babies born will be hens and only males can be split cinnamon.
Don't quote me 100% on this either but i'm pretty sure that's what i've been told.
others on this forum will know for sure, and i'll be interested to see if i'm correct.

That depends on what your male could be split for as well...And is the cin female just a cin...you can spilt the girl to pied as well...Untill you really know what they both have in the way of jenes you will not know till you get babys...and if you get all pieds there is a chance that the girl has pied there...pending that they are both males and females the babies....he mite even be spilt to cin...It would be a guessing game at this point untill you have young...

If he is Pied and she is Cinnamon and they dont carry other traits then all young born will be Normal greys split to pied and any male chicks will be split to Cinnamon Egg laying can commence anytime however fertile eggs are laid between 5 and 7 Days after mating cheers Frank
