I have a pair of hens that want the same nesting box, or should i say wanted the same nesting box, they would consistantly go to the same box and sit as soon as one left it to feed the other hen would dive in and claim it. There was no fighting and even the cockbirds did't fight but would just fly to the box and sit there while their respective partner was in the box. Two days ago there were two eggs in the box, I have no idea who they belong to, and this morning i notice that one hen, the lace wing, is sitting tight on the eggs and showing no sign of leaving ;D. The other pair, the white face pair, are now showing interest in another nest box and she is even sitting in the box. My question is, will the hen that is sitting on the two eggs, providing she stays there, hatch the exsisting eggs with any more she lays and if so will she raise the chicks. Have i completly confused you all? John

Hi John, I had two pairs that did this exact same thing and they hatched them out fine, I also had two hens that just mated with others cockbirds and shared a box and raised 7 chicks together, strange I know but they are doing the same thing again, I'll let them go because they did a great job last time.

John, As far as I can tell the hen will probably think tose eggs are hers and guard them closely. Most likely will add to them aswell.
All the best, let me know how they go
