At the moment all my cockatiels have decided they want new outfits for xmas and are moulting something fierce. Feathers everywhere and birds that look like they have gone 10 rounds with Mohammed Ali..LOL Somewhere someone mentioned something that was good in assisting in their moulting....not sure what it does exactly but anything I can give them to help them get back to their usual good looks would certainly be appreciated!A few of my hens look totally dreadful......feathers are all over the place and they aren't sitting flat! They are al being fed a seed mix with assorted greens each day and charcoal available...plus calcium bells and cuttlebone......plus they have grevillea branches to chew on and a large bowl of water for that afterneen dip! Is there something I am forgetting or lacking? Jo-Anne

Hi Jo-Anne it's quite normal to experience heavy moults which usually dont last as long as a normal moult, the weather patterns have a drastic effect on types of moults it's probably a very good time to increase the fat content ie extra sunflower/hulled oats in their diet and sprinkle an avian vitaliser over their sprouts or a multi vitamin top up in their diet cheers Frank

Frank do you also recommend increasing the sunflower content in the sprouted seeds during this period?

Thanks for that Frank. I did change the seed ratios a few weeks ago and added extra sunflower and hulled oats as well as wf millet and wheat......that was after the discussion on here about feeding while resting! I don't currently use a vitamin supp but was going to get some Soluvet to put on the sprouts as was suggested on here also! Is that suitable? Jo-Anne

Yes Jo-Anne Soluvet is a good product for moulting birds I would use it twice per week.Hi John no need to add extra Sprouted Sunflower Seed as it takes on a vegetable form and not a fatty form which is required whilst moulting cheers Frank ;D
