Hi, I have a baby lutino tiel which I am h/rearing which is my first & a great surprise to me as didn't know the dad was split for lutino & mum is a lutino pearl. Problem is the poor wee thing seems sensative to light whenever I get it out the brooder & basically keeps its eyes closed most of the time & hides under my hair LOL but is fit & healthy otherwise. I have read that lutino's can be sensative to light. Do they outgrow this problem & is there anything I can do to help it. Any advise would be appreciated as I will have more lutino babies on the way & I would hate to think that the poor wee things will all suffer from this Cheers for now Anna Olive

Hi Anna most red eyed Tiels are a little sensitive to light but not the extremes your young bloke is going too!! Hope its only a minor problem and he or she gets over it! cheers Frank

Hi Anna, my Merry had the same problem, she was 6 days old when I had to take over and she would hide her head in my hand, she is 12mths old now but she still squints when the sun is on her, I have a dark cover over part of her cage for her to retreat to if she needs. Other than this she is a very happy and active tiel who would eat me out of house and home if she had half a chance ;D. Just keep and eye on your little one, and if she wants to hide a wee bit let her, she should adjust slowly......by the way how old is he/she.

Hi Frank & Deb, Thanks for your advise. The wee one is coming up for about 5 weeks old. I am slowly going to get her (fingers crossed that it is a she) used to a bit more light as I have taken her & syblings & put them into a bit lighter box now. She seems fine in there , eyes are open, it is only when I bring her out to feed her that she squints her eyes, but she does like hiding under my hair, which would be okay except the other 4 think that is fun too LOL, all on the same shoulder. Don't you just love them when theywant to snuggle up to you this way. ;D ;D ;D . Cheers for now & I will certainly keep a close watch on her & hopefully she will improve as she gets older.
