Weagle is now a month and a week and a half old and I am feeding her twice a day still. I am wondering whether I should start trying to cut those hand feeds down to once a day......
I fed her this morning but only fed her about half of what she usually has - she wasn't really interested anyway.
Anyone have any advice for me??? And how do I do it...do I just cut it or do I feed her less and less until one feed is cut out.

Hi Tracey, if Weagle is not interested in the morning feed, you can try cutting that one out. All birds are individuals & some will wean early & some will take longer. For me if my baby tiels are still demanding food then I feed them even though it might be only 1 feed a day. You could try cutting down the amount but you have to make sure Weagle is eating by herself otherwise it is pointless & the poor thing could starve. I am a believer in letting the bird decide when it is ready to wean, not when they are suppose to wean & I can hear gasps but that is what I do. They do eventually learn to feed themselves & I find they don't seem to be as stressed if I let them decide when they want to wean. A lessed stressed bird is a healthier & happy bird. Cheers Anna

Thanks Anna.....she is feeding herself. I have some apple in the cage with sprouts - need some more Dad ;D - and snow peas and stuff.
She went straight to the sprouts this morning when I put the new ones in, so I am pretty sure she is feeidng herself too. When I get her out at night I also get some sprouts and snow peas and she nibbles on them while she is out.......
I might cut the morning feed down - she still calls out for it, but I think it is out of habit more than anything cause she really isn't that interested in it - she feeds more at night than in the morning.....
Will see how she goes for the rest of the week. Thanks for the advice.
