Well actually i have two questions I will start by saying that I have a tiel box with two eggs in it, the parents are an Albino and a Pied but the question is which it mum and which is dad. I think mum is the albino but i'm n ot sure so Ill post a pic of the pied and maybee someone out there can give me an opinion on what they reckon. In the picture the bird in question is furtherest from the camera which brings me to my second question ;D, I was under the Impression that the pearl in the picture, closest to the camera, was a hen but i have noticed some extra red markings just above the cheek patch and maybee it is a cockbird?? here is the picture not very good quality I'm afraid. I hope you may be able to shed some light on the questions. John

hello john as far as the first part of the question goes re witch is male and female i would say to get the answer i would go out after dark and see who is out as the female female will be sitting on the eggs at night and as far as the pearl goes if it is an adult bird then it is a female as the males loose the pearling comming into adult hood hope this helps regards bill

Thanks Bill, the Albino sits on the eggs at night and the pied takes over during the day so that clears that up. I thought that was the case with the Pearl but wasn't sure.
Thanks again
John

I was trying to find the photo of the pearl you put here when you first got her/him...that if it is the same birds...as bill was saying about the pearling..I saw on this bird that the pearling looks like it is disapearing on the chest. As for the albino I cannot see one..All I see is a pied wf..Maybe there is another bird in the photo!!!That one to me looks like a hen...and the other the pied looks like a male to me...But who knows...I cannot see a tail shot in these photos...But there are a lot of males that do have girl tail even if they are years old..Which I have..They are so mixed up know,it does make it had...You will just have to listen for the calling..and as Bill said catch out who is in the nest...But I get both sitting at night as well...So looks like it is the waiting game here...You will have to sit and watch them for a day...But dont you love watching what your birds get up to .....I kow I do...

Gday John Bill was spot on his post 90% of Albinos' getting around are hens, but as Bill said the hens sit at night the only problem here is the pied gives me the impression of a hen ,i just hope you dont have a pair of females! fertile eggs and male behaviour will solve that problem,Redness scattered around the cheek patch and face is normally a sign of stress especially in Lutinos. The Pearl gives me every indication that ii is a hen as most males moult them out by 12 mths old but it's not unlikely for some to retain them for up to 3 years ! Cheers

The eggs are only a couple of days old so i will candle them in about a week and see if they are firtile. The Albino was showing some male traits Frank, spreading of the wingsm and that type of thing, it was only a very young bird when i got it so which ever way it goes I guess it's just wait and see.
