Hi guys this one has been tickling my fancy for a while as i have been given permission from a great fellow breeder to publish one of the VERY FIRST PHOTOs viewed on an Australian forum/website of an "OLIVE " Cockatiel! A new mutation born and bred on our shores! This one has been kept so quiet that not even the Forum Owner knew about it sorry John but at least it's a First. Their breed is recessive meaning you need 2 off splits or visual to reproduce them.I would appreciate honest opinions of the Olive cheers Frank Medium Phase Olive Cockatiel

It is a striking looking bird Frank, some of the newer colours Iv'e seen have looked much the same to me, but this bird is really different, a beautifull colour. ;D ;D
I could be tempted to breed Tiels if only these were available ;D
Cheers Tony

It is a very stunning looking bird Frank, but can't say it is my cup of tea mutation wise, but well done to the aussie breeder. It looks more olive than the Other so called pictures of olives I've seen. I guess it just looks a bit bland for my liking but my comments only' It is very healthy looking which is a plus. Cheers Anna

Another first for AussieBirds !!!!!! Just goes to show you we are the place to be. I'm a bit undecided about the colour Frank it certainly is Olive in colour around the head but looks grey in the body area, but what would I know. Just as a bit of a guide Frank what would a bird like that sell for in todays market. John

It is a nice picture of the olive cockatiel. A breeder i know bred the olives and they did look olive in the feathering. The photo doesnt show the olive colour very clear. May be it will change after it has molted.

Thanks John there was a breeder who was asking $1000 for colored varieties but I would figure somewhere from $350-$450 depending on the genetics and quality of Olive Frank

i love the colour of that cockatiel. When i go to my friends house next i will take a picture of the cockatiel that i used to own i gave it her cause she liked the colour of her. she is a cinnamon pearl and if its true on what you said about the females keep the pearl and the males loss it will mean this cockatiel is female. she is 4 years old now.

John the chick in question is approx 8 weeks old and is probably the most expensive handreared cockatiel going around!

Thanks Natalie the Olives do have a Silvery tinge but the Yellow suffusion gives it that Olive tone! Looks like the inherited name is not only confusing the Yanks but also the Aussies. When combined with Whiteface it looks very much like the Whiteface Silver Spangles! thanks again Frank

Hi Frank, Great pic there. Looks just like the olives I saw in the flesh. I must admit I prefer the whiteface olives over the normal olive but I still prefer my platinum pastelface pied!!LOL I have also seen a cinamon olive in the flesh......slightly different colouration but I still fail to see where the olive name comes from. It is more a spangled effect than a green. I personally wouldn't be spending the money to get in on the ground floor with this mutation. Jo-Anne
