I have a one year old H/R male who has been boss cocky up to now. He showed jealousy with the babies I've been handraising and was very pleased to see them go. We have decided to keep one for another pet, a male who is challenging him. The baby is 9 wks old and in his own cage. Is it wise to keep them both? Will they get used to each other? Or should I just go for a female? My husband is not happy with the conflict. Jacqui

LOL sounds like fun at your place...It would not matter what sex you have there...It is just a matter of time till your guy accept the other one....How long have you had the other one as well...You other teil proberly doesnt know that he is a bird....I would just not pay too much attention in front of no1....Aways let the other one know that there is no different on the way that you love him...Where do you have the cage as well...This other guy is only a baby and will learn to give his own back...But you are the one that realy knows the answer to this...See if there is any differents within a few more weeks..That way you will still have this little one to play and love...and if there is no differents..The little will be still young to find a new home...
This does happen all the time...only time will tell..

Hi Jacqui, It is normal for the first pet male to show jeaulosy. I have 5 males of my own all in seperate cages but living in the same area. They do get use to each other & the only other thing I do is each male gets his own time out to themselves in a seperate room for their own special one to one time with us & this tends to keep them sweet with you. Just give it a bit of time but reassure your first male that he is number 1 tiel. If you are going to h/rear again, perhaps feed the babies where your male can't see or hear the babies as he thinks he is missing out on attention & has been feeling very put out. Male tiels can be such brats LOL Cheers Anna

Thanx Anna, at least he's normal and not just spoilt rotten! My son will be pleased to know that he can keep his baby bird. The older one is my daughters bird who we've had since 6 wks old, so he's very much part of the family now and very much a bratty male teenager! I'm sometimes tempted to put him in the avairy to 'cool off', but time out back in his cage works for most of the time. We only let them out morn and night for short periods, just to remind them who's the boss!
