I've just clipped my sons pet cockatiel (which we h/r from our avairy). the trouble is, he hasn't even noticed the difference! he can still fly up to the top of the cupboards. I cliiped both wings believing that he would still fly straight and not hurt himself on landing etc. His brother got clipped the same way before he went to his new home, and he couldn't even fly waist high. I had another bird once that I'd sold to the pet shop next door to where I work. They only cut one wing and she managed to get to the ledge 2 storys high in Westfield!!! So has this happened to anyone else?

Yep that'd be right, lol. Some are just better stronger flyers than others. We start with 3 flight feathers for our handraised babies and see how they go, then take off an extra one at a time until we're happy with them.

So, next batch....I'll clip the wings earlier a bit at a time. that way they may not guess they can fly well!

You are best to let them learn to fly, turn and land before clipping them. If you clip them before they learn to fly, turn and land sometimes they never fly properly later on when their feathers grow back. Tricky stuff isn't it? lol
