Hi Slognoth Tookie is a normal grey I dont spot any Pied yet but dad is definately pied could be male or female and should have more feathers at 18 dys but has been feather plucked noticably the crest feathers on the head give mum and dad plenty of calcium intake and some vitamins sprinkled on their soft foods such as Soluvet just incase it a diet defiency Frank

Tookie is being hand feed and isn't in with other birds. He hasn't had any feathers plucked, he just hasn't grown them yet!

Hi Slognoth the last photo of Tookie on his/her site shows irregular feather folics growth if he or she hasn't been plucked recently it seems to me that maybe he/she has had something affect his folics as the crest pins should be out but hopefully all will grow back,Also his mum is a pearl and not a pied So that makes Tookie a Normal grey split pearl and split pied

Frank, I don't understand what you mean. These birds are born bald, they grow feathers from pin feathers which open up. Tookie has totally normal feathering for his age (possibly 15 - 18 days). He wouldn't have crest feathers at that age.

I'm talking about the the lack of pin feathers on the top of his/her head if a young chick that has its down chewed up by ithe parents or a parent prior to pin feathering sometimes can have an effect on the regrowth of feather folics especially on the top of their heads!Thats why sometimes we see Tiels with malformed crests, only time will tell.
