Hi Everybody, I have a problem or rather one of my 'teils has.
I've got a yellow-cinnamon cock-bird that has difficulty getting up onto any perch since lunch-time yesterday. I grabbed him out of the avairy late yesterday afternoon and placed him in quarauntine.
Today when a checked him I noticed that there was no droppings at all in the cage that he was in and he had a dark green stain around the vent and he was still on the bottom of the cage. This afternoon I noticed very watery droppings (not much substance at all) and the stain was much darker.
He has been with a hen in a full height avairy and has been on a regular diet of mixed seeds, fruit (apple, pears, grapes) and vegies (carrot, celery, bok choi & corn) for well over 8 months. He was wormed just on 2 weeks ago (precautionary). All the birds have shell grit and calcium/ charcoal bells and these guys use them pretty well but not what I'd call excessive. His general condition is still pretty 'bright & bushy'..........eyes still clear, active (but on the ground) but is unable to get height or control his flight when he tries. He hasn't eaten all that much over the last 24 hours.
I'm wondering if he has constipation or perhaps a more serious worm issue.
Any suggestions as to what might be happening here and action that I could take would be greatly appreciated.
Cheers

With a green vent sounds like a case of diarrhea probably some sort of food poisioning or bacterial infection! In normal cases a high consumption of fruit or veges may be the cause and usually clears within 24 hrs if not seek a avian vet for a more serious threat! good luck Frank

Yeah thank's Frank, I wish I had an avian vet to go to............there isn't one where I am !!!........and from what I've heard the other vets around aren't much good on birds.
Maybe it's something in the fruit. These guys don't get a lot of fruit but have been on it for well over 12 months without any problems before now. I guess I should stop the fruit then for a while and see what happens.
Thanks
