ok well my questions is about tiel poos.... I have 2 female pet tiels and they tend to do the biggest wet runny poos , not a nice subject I know but.....that are both very healthy.......they have a great variety of foods....greens, seeds, seed breads, cuttle bone, native bush etc, ......they are both lutinos, red eyes mini bald spot........is this just something with lutinos .....I have two other females (pied/normal) and they do nice solid ones ;D any one had observations on this subject

I would back off on the greens a bit Deb and add a bit more calcium to their diet in the form of calcivet sprinkled on the food.

I would give them less greens and especially fruit Deb, some birds don't cope with a diet that is normal for all the others, I think that they are the same colour is a coinincidence. Try giving those two some medicated charcoal too, It works wonders in these cases.

Bill: they do the same consistency day in day out.. and I have not changed there diet.
John: I though the same thing about to much greens so they got there greens cup every third day, but it made no change. They also get probotic once a week and soluvet.
Tony: the girls will not eat fruit so there is no problem there, I do a selection of sprouts, carrots, spinach and a few milk thistles....they do love the carrots, they end up with orange beaks LOL. Medicated charcoal, were is the best place to get that from.
Petiel: Don't think they will be laying eggs, they are pet ones indoors and they will have nothing do with the boys in fact they hate them LOL

Hi deb, just wondering if you notice them drinking lots of water as this will give them runny poos & can also be an indication of infection. Cheers Anna

Deb, you should be able to get medicated charcoal from any good pet shop or bird shop, some produce places might carry it. I still tend to think it's diet related, I would cut back on the greens and only give them the thistle for a week or two, and no native brush either, it could contain something in the blooms that is upsettig thier digestion.
How long have these hens been doing this?? It might be an idea to do some fecal samples and take them to an avian vet for examination Deb, there could be a small gut infection causing this, some are resistant to Probotics.

yep I think the answer here is no more mucking around...think I will get a sample and take it to my avian vet.
One thing Merry who is the worst has a water thing and Anna just made me see it, she gets in her fresh water bowl every morning to bath and she does seem to drink it as well, she just goes nuts for the water and I mean nuts to the extent of being stupid ROFLOL, maybe she is drinking too much...
I'll still cut down the greens and native bush and get a sample taken.....will keep you all posted.

Chickabee, Pet cockatiel hens still lay eggs when they are indoors, they do not have to have a nestbox or a mate. I let my customers who buy my hand reared tiels know to keep up the calcuim to hens. Pet owners have lost their pets to egg bounding.

deb i know what you are talking about my tiels had big runny poos.Julie said theres nothing wrong with with birds as there not fluffed up or on the ground of the cage.So if your birds are the same as that they need worming have your birds lost any weight.Worms make the birds loss weight and have runny poos.So i would get them wormed.Birds should be wormed once a year.
