Actually it depends on the bird really they say cockatiels can breed as early as 1 year old but chances are the first clutch is infertile. They reccomend that they should be 18 months old before you breed.Cockatiels are mature at the age of 1 to 2 years. Normally a bird will mate when there ready.Don't distrub them this will also make them do that.I have a pair of lovebirds and the female has started laying her eggs i only check the nest box once or twice a day.

ok cockatiels become sexualy mature at 9 months of age the reccomended age for breeding is 18 months
but in the wild they will and do breed at 12 months without any problems i to have had tiels beed at 12 months and there has been no side effects
as far as birds knowing weather eggs are infurtile or not they dont know they sit for a sertin time then they will leave the eggs
as far as egg being thrown out of nest this happens when 2 females are fighting over one nest site or idf the egg is broken with chicks being thrown out of nest again it could be another pair wanting to use the nest site or if it is ill the perents will throw them out as well as if the perants want to breed again they will throiw chicks out
with eagles it is quiet common for 2 or more chicks to hatch but only one will survive because the strongest chick throws the weakest chick out of the nest regards bill

Hey Ziki there sems to be a lot written but your question as to why the eggs are cold could be many. How many eggs are laid what type of nest box do you use? as incubation doesn't commence till the 3rd or 4th egg is laid and in my years of breeding I have never encountered a Tiels throwing out a whole egg :)cheers Frank

I have a pair of lovebirds and the female has started laying her eggs i only check the nest box once or twice a day. Don't check the nest box too many times while the hen is still in the process of laying her eggs, just leave the box for another 4 days until you check it
