In my opininom definately not better to checkout for a local breeder contact the secretary at Ancs and ask if they have any members listed in the area
secretary@cockatielsociety.org.au
Frank p.s the secretary is a lovely lady who i,m sure will help as she is also a moderator here (Josiedownunda)

Ziki I would also suggest that your friend scrubs out the cage thoroughly with some recommended disinfectant to make sure there is nothing left there from the previous birds infections, also the feeding and water dishes and any toys, mirrors, etc. Keep anyone with a bad cold or sneezes away from your bird, especially if they are new. They need time to settle in without any extra stresses. A breeder should be more reliable, but if you are going in with no recommendations, check out the other birds and their cages and if everything looks clean and healthy you should be on a winner. Also ask if they have any policy if the bird should get sick in the first few weeks. There is no right or wrong answer to this, but one answer may give you more confidence. Keep checking through petlink - there's a link on this home page I think and there is bound to be something come up from your area soon. Good luck and I hope your friend gets to enjoy a loving healthy pet in the near future.

Sorry, Frank and I posted at the same time. Frank's suggestion is better than mine.
