Our pet whiteface cinnamon pearl, Tizzy, lost her pearls in her recent moult. Just wondering if anyone knows why a hen would lose her pearls?
Thanks

Hi Kim well it's stumped me! The next thing you have to ask yourself is "Is it a Hen" Hmmm Frank

Yep Frank she is a hen, she still has the barring on her tail feathers, hasn't ever whistled etc and is about 3 or 4 years old. Her parents are a whiteface pearl hen and a whiteface reverse pied/cinnamon cock. I'm wondering if being indoors has something to do with it? Lack of sunlight?
It throws us now because we also have a whiteface cinnamon hen pet and they both look so similar now.
By the way, the baby fledged a couple of days ago from the bird we bought from you.

Lack of sunlight can be a factor, but that normally leaves a spangling moulted effect ! ???The parentage doesn't help either as mum is a pearl meaning both sexes born can be pearls? ;D Great to hear the young Wf Pied has fledged any chance of a photo cheers Frank

Hi Bill actually my experiences tell me the reverse is the normal as hens intensify their pearls and color tones as they mature! Was just wondering if the 2 birds in question have completed going thru a moult? Frank

Ok, but Dad being a whiteface reverse pied/cinn means he'd pass his cinnamon down to his daughters? So she'd have to be a hen? I think I've got that right.
I'll try and get some photos tomorrow for you of the whiteface reverse pied fledgliing.

Thanks Kim I overlooked the Split factor so the breeding indeed suggests she is a hen look forward to the photos cheers Frank

Thanks Frank, genetics isn't my strongest point but I thought I had that one right.
Photo of the whiteface pied is in the photo sections now.

I have a WF-Cin-Prl-Pd that changed her pearls after a moult or two too!
