Hiya all! ;D its been a while since ive been around these parts..heheh...hope all is well for everyone  just a lil query in relation to my 2 teils, my boy pablo who is approx 7-8months old now was a lonely bugger during the day so i went out and brought him a little h/reared companion named peppy who is approx 3 months old now, they have been living together for approximately 1-2 months now.... im just wanting to know..how long does it approx take for these 2 to become friends, pablo is tryin to become friends with peppy but peppy wont have a bar of it, ive seen pablo try to play, preen and snuggle up to peppy but NOPE peppy just hisses and bites back  .. ive also seen that sometimes peppy will not let pablo eat from the main feeding dish...im guessing peppy is a girl as he/she bites and hisses quite abit but is a MASSIVE sookie la la and wont leave your side.. should i separeate these two for abit as peppy is pretty much ruling the cage or should i just leave them as is???...poor pablo, its like his already under the thumb by his new companion!.. hope someone could help ;D |

it sounds like they are still going threw the "" im boss "" sindrome does peppy wistle or is more vocal than pablo
as it sopunds like they may be 2 males nd where pablo wants to be friends peppy wants to dominate him leaving them in the same cage wont hert but keep an eye on them and if they get to agressive seperate them as far as the feed goes it might pay if possable to put a second feed station in with them

Hi there bill, thanks for your response... as for who is more vocal, pablo is definately more vocal then peppy, pablo Sings n whistles alllllllllllll day long..hehehe, at the moment peppy is just doing one whistle ALL the time as he/she only just learnt it approx 1-2 weeks ago..though ive found that peppy is more vocal when he/she hears us comming into the room or down the stairs... I have 2 feeding dishes in the cage but pablo insists on wanting to use the main one, not sure why, but im guessing its because its HIS house and he was there first... just frustrating to see peppy chasing pablo away from him playing with his toys ..... could this problem be size related aswell? pablo is older but peppy is much bigger in size??... .....emz ;D |

i think it is a domination problem over time it can sort it self out is peppy injuring pablo at ell if not i would leave them go and see if it settles down
if they are starting to do damage then seperation is in order also is pablos getting enough to eat (does he look like he is losing weight ) if he is i would seperate them

From breeding Tiels i have noticed that generally the females are bigger birds than the males so it may be battle of the sexes. But unfortunatly not all Tiels get along and it may be the simple fact that they just dont like each other. Of course we as humans are not best friends with everyone we meet  Blossey |

Hi Emz, just make sure that pablo is allowed to eat from the main eating dish as I have seen tiels die from starvation because the other tiel won't let it eat from the food dish. Sounds like you have 2 males & like bill said peppy is trying to be the dominant one. Please observe pablo carefully & if he is not allowed to eat from the food dish I would recommend seperating them quickly. Cheers for now Anna

gday again... .. umm i havent actually noticed any injuries on pablo, as for his weight his actually maintained his weight but im keeping an eye that aswell...i will also keep a close eye on bossy boots peppy..hopefully things will settle down, if not..i will seperate them and find pablo a new friend..hehheh .............emz ;D

Great to hear Emz that you are keeping an eye on them. Tiels can drop weight so quickly without the owner realising it. Sometimes 2 males just don't hit it off with one another & even though there are no injuries there will be plenty of beak fights. Oh well great chance for you to buy a lovely female for Pablo if the two don't work out together ;D ;D ;D & then he will get to be the dominant one LOL & bossing her about. Cheers Anna

Bwhahah id love to see pablo putting his foot down seeing its his house and his toys etc etc, just a shame that mr emz has bonded with peppy, as for me well i have more loyalty n love for pablo, i havent really bonded with peppy at all.. Just sad to see pablo try n sit next to peppy and sing n whistle to him.... hopefully the next teil i buy will actually be a girl  ...i had no idea that tiels can lose weight without the owner actually realising..  i shall try n buy electronic scales ASAP.. .. bleh now its back to my search for another young teil in sydney, hopefully female to.... ..thanks all for ur help.....emz ;D .... ps i have plenty of pics but im STILL tryin to figure out how to post them up!..emz and computers dont mix very well ..heh |

emz Just an idea but you said peppy was hand raised didn't you? It could be that she is still thinking you(humans) are her mate and doesn't realise that Pablo is the same as her. Give them time.
