Hi Emz
I got a budgie as companion for my tiel (disguised as a pet for son) and although they do get on ok most of the time, the budgie seems to annoy the tiel a bit. Budgies are noisier than tiels too.
I ended up getting another tiel and the three of them together remind me of Shrek, Donkey and Princess Fiona (if you have ever seen the movie). Donkey being the pesky budgie. They do all get along together okay but there are some squabbles. Mainly the budgie seems to get a bit bored and will goad the male tiel until he snaps back and chases the budgie through the house, then all settles down again until the next time budgie is looking for a bit of excitement. lol This budgie seems to poop a lot more than the tiels too and loves to buzz any unsuspecting living thing in the room - human or bird!

Yes Princess parrots are the greatest. he females seem to be more gentle than the males( just like the humans!!!oops sorry guys) Make sure you get a hand raised one though. Also plumheads are very quiet too!!!

Hello emz, Budgies can be a pain in the rear end as far as companion birds for differetn species, however providing the two birds are raised together it works fine. Cockatiels are very placid birds and will really assimulate with most other medium sized parrots but unfortunatly it doesnt always work in reverse, if you are looking to get a companion for your bird why not get another cockatiel.

I wouldn't get a budgie as a companion for a cockatiel. My budgie (female) is quite aggressive towards my cockatiel when they are together and I would certainly never put them together when I am not right there, even when they are out with me, I watch them like a hawk.
