Hi rebeljane firstly welcome to our forum and yawning in Cockatiels with a little head shake is actually the bird strecthing its crop, if it hapens reguarly and consistently i would get it checked out for throat legions also wet seeds can cause this problem keep an eye out if it is once in a while then it's normal cheers Frank

Some one said that it could be from a lack of iodine which is causing a goitre - could this be true and what can I do to correct it? Thank you for the welcome.

Hi rebeljanei wouldn't think it's a lack of iodine but if it is a throat lesion it's normally one which comes about from wet seeds or dustyseed and develops as a yellowy blob in the throat it's also as i said previously normal for stretching their throats but if you see its contininuos and shaking of the head like trying to throw someting out then get it checked by an avian vet as only antibiotics will help!
