Thing is pet shops NEVER pay what you want and it really is worth getting out the phone book and ringing as many as you can find to get their "buying" price. I was offered from $5-$15 for canaries last season by pet shops....even the zeb finch "buy" price was a bit all over the place.
Other thing to kepe in mind if you are selling privately is to keep the price down a little...as you really don't want excess babies hanging around for to long as the more clutches you raise leads to less time spent keeping the handling up on older birds....same goes for parent raised birds.
I think i will be a little while off yet I dont want to go half hearted because i live in a unit and hav to wait til we get a house. even though i dont have birds at the moment i try to contribute as much as i can to this forum.
Thanks Wilsta. You are aleady contributing heaps to this forum. I await ,along with many others, for the day, when your birds arrive.best Robert and Angel
Wilsta why do you have to wait until you get a house?? Lovebirds are a tiny little bird (with lots of personality ;D ) and I can't imagine that they would be a hassel in a unit? Are you going to breed them?? Or have them as a pet?? You could get yourself a lovely big indoor cage like what I have my canaries in and it would fit into a unit or on a verandah .......... and even better in a house ;D
Gee I am no good ............. just buy them all. LOL (joking)

hey vankarhi I'd love to but we are renting atm and we are not allowed to keep pets in doors or out for that matter... our unit is on the top floor too plus our balcony has no roof and the direction of the balcony is facing south, it wouldnt be fair on the birds... plus I am patient I'd rather go full out instead of half assed, I want to breed them and have several birds instead of keeping a single or a pair if that makes any sense. knowing me I would want the biggest possible cage too so having a few in a small cage just doesnt cut the mustard with me. I can bide my time and find suitable pure breeders and learn as much as I possibly can about certain types of lovebirds and of course how to breed them successfully.
I have planned it all out just need a house hahaha
