Colour mutations are they frowned upon in relation to Lovebirds colours? I just want to get everyones perspectives and opinion regarding colour to see where the line is drawn. For example you have a natrual (normal peachface) does other colours actually occur in the wild due to a certain gene in the bird alters the colouring of the bird. i just want to know if these colours such as the blue masked Lovebird is natural or has it been altered to get blue? What is pure anymore? So i am curious if i get two pure (natural) ..... Lovebirds (what ever they may be) and they breed a different colour would i suspect that the pair were infact not natural? I am confused about genetics and I have read the ABLS Genetics thing and it has confused me. www.africanlovebirdsociety.com/genetics/genetics.htm

If you breed with two birds and you get babies of different colour then you have a parent of one of those birds that is split, in other words one of the parents is not pure to the colour.

Mutations of a lots of animals occur naturally in the wild. This colour gets lost ,either because it cannot mate with the same color,or because it is different it gets caught by a predator. This ought not to be used to deny that there is a normal wild bird either in peachface or whatever. With the white-eyed lovebirds there is a special difficulity of hybridization. It is important for you Wilsta, that when you get your Lovies,it is important to know who the parents are. Some breeders keep documenation of this. If they especially have documenation going back a number of generations, that ought to give you a great degree of certainty. Best Robert and Angel

I will keep that in mind Robert. I intend to find a pure white eyed breeder which will be the difficult part. But not impossible.

Hope of use. I was at The African Lovebird and Foreign Parrot Society Society (of Qld) meeting last night. I was informed by someone, that we do not have any pure normal Peachface in Australia. He also told me,that he has not seen any pure normal Mask in Australia. It is only in the Fischer and Nyassa ,that you will find pure normals. The Black-Cheek are too expensive.Best Robert and Angel
