Hi everyone, i'm handrearing some lorikeets and one of the red collars the youngest is have like fits- it's like it's throwing itself around the warming box it's in, when i am holding it and it happens i can feel all the muscels are very tight and tensed and it squawks during it as well, it had the worst one last night that lasted at least an hour and the one before that was 2 nights before but only lasted half an hour, i have handreared a lot of birds including other lorikeets but i've never had this happen before.
if anyone could help with why it could be happening and if there is anything to help the bird. i have seperated it from the other lorikeets i am rearing.
any help or advice is appreciated. Thankyou

is it more like a seizure..it could be any think..low in vit B1..can cause it..failure in absorbing caluim..also a head injery.dietary deficineces, infections, poisoning.brain tumours, liver or kidney disease, low in blood sugar, lack of oxygen,epilepsy...any ting could do this..and I think it would be a job for the vet to look into this problem...

Hi, yes it could be a seizure, i was just hoping there was something i could do to help the bird until i could get to an avian vet, can't get there until tomorrow afternoon. i shouldn't think the heat would be a problem, the bird never feels hot either it feel right but it does the same thing when i have it out with me as well.
