Hi everyone, I just bought my first lorikeet who is 13 mths old. The guy I got it off referred to the little fella as a 'baby'. He also told me to feed the bird - constant supply of dry mix, - once a day wet mix with a little watered honey and fresh fruit & vegies. When I got my little fella home, I felt his breastbone was sticking out a little, which I take it means he's been a little underfed. Any advice appreciated.

Good luck with your new lorikeet, I think the diet described is Ok except I am not so sure about the honey. Lorikeets are nectar eating birds and get that from the special lorikeet wet mix that you give them. I am not sure about giving them honey. Don't know what others think. Also might be an idea to worm him!

Any new birds I get, not only do I isolate them I spray them to kill mites - 2 treatments, once a week, and I worm them! Not that I don't trust who they came from, just in case though!! I havn't actually given honey to the little guy yet. I figured with all the fruit he eats he dosn't really need it. - He helps me every morning to cut up fruit and vegies for all my parrots! And also gets fresh fruit throughout the day.

I LOOOOVE MY SCALEY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Psycho has learnt to step up and I love him/her to pieces!! By the way when I pat the bird on the head or neck, it bows down and lifts it tail in the air!?! Does that mean its a girl, or is it a scaley breast behavioural thing??? I might have to eventually get Psycho some company....... Loooooooooooove scaleys!!!!!!!!!!!!

They can have honey, but not the normal ones you buy in shop. Try to find a bee keeper. They can have only 10% of what they are eating. But since he is one a good diet, I would only give as a treat..

Yep confused! but that's ok, after all the little guy is just a special pet and not something I plan to breed with! Anyhow, just in case I do happen to get another pet scaley, does it matter if they're the same sex - as in will they fight to death, or they'l just be fine? Not that I'm getting another right now, but just in case I ever come across another for sale........

Same sex pairs are usually fine. I have had them often pair up only to find out I have two males or two females.

Great to know I can always get a friend for my little pscho if I want, how are tame scaleys like with other tame birds? Do they learn to be friends with other species, like peachies or cockatiels or ringnecks?

If you introducing them when young they could be ok.Waiting till your lorry is older would not be a good idea..That realy goes with any bird.

Thanx Motherhen. by the way every1 my scaley made its first imitated whistle! And has been at it every time it goes to sleep!! Quick learner!! And also psycho is getting use to my spray baths - I do it in the morning around 10ish when there's sun on my patio and put his cage out there and give him a squirt. Well this morning he actually played around in the 'shower', on the bottem of his cage. Hope to get some more better pics by the weekend!!
