Since i have picked up Elvis i have noticed that his beak is not the typical red it is more of a pinky colour, Could this be because he is lacking in something or do they change colour with age. I think Elvis is about 3 months old........................ Or could it be because he is a Elvisette? Can anyone shed some light please.

Do they start off black. I thought they were red. I have picks of my alex (the one I have now) at 3 weeks and his beak was red. I know the ekkies have black beaks (males) when they are young and the females are a lighter colour and they change as they get older (females end up black and males end up orange colour).
The baby alex I have now has a reddish beak and he is 6 weeks old. My sons alex had a bright red beak when she was about 3 months old (probably before that but I have pics of her at about 3 months) and we think she is a she, because of her head shape and lack of ring or sign of ring at 15 months.
At a guess I would say your bird is just a baby and will change as "it" gets older. But I am not an alex expert either, it is just a guess.

The odd one has a red beak at a young age, but most have pinkish beaks that get redder as they age, can take up to 12 mths to change, he's perfectly normal so don't worry, alot of Alex's are like this, ringnecks are the same.
