I am not a breeder as such. I just like birds. And I want all my birds to have a mate. As I said I am a novice at all this and assumed that it was perfectly acceptable as we had already bought a tame cross/scalley from a pet shop for a hefty price. Excuse my ignorance but was the scalley/musk in the sub species category or hybrid category. If sub category - and the eggs are indeed fertile do you think it wise to let them have another clutch? None of the birds will go out into the wild as they are going to be hand reared as pets.

I think this sort of breeding actually happens more often than not mainly because people (including me) are not aware that this is or can be considered wrong. I know that within ekkies it happens a lot because a lot of people do not realise there are sub species like Solomon Islands, and Red sided, Vos as well as others. It can be hard to tell sometimes. Though I have to wonder sometimes about the cross breeding birds like cockatiels and galahs or sulfers and galahs, or corellas and galahs.............I know i have said it before but maybe if you own a galah you should be careful (joking)
