For the past 3 weeks we've had the local wild lorikeet babies screaming at their parents. Hubby and I looked at each other today when they were once again begging to be fed and he said with a partial warning, partial plead to his voice "you're not going to breed lorikeets are you?" Hell no. Now don't get me wrong. I love my 2 to pieces, really enjoy watching then in the wild but I take my hat off to anyone who is breeding them and dealing with that whiny noise continually. Give me whinging 'tiel babes or budgie babes any day. You won't be seeing baby lorikeet picks from me unless they're back yard visitors. Oh yeah and of course horses for courses on this one.

Hahahaha I don't think there's a quiet baby noise is there? We've had the black cockies and galahs feeding their bubs and what a racket. My friend had baby princesses she was hand raising and OMG I couldn't believe the noise they made LOL

Well I think Jeff would prefer I didn't handraise budgies again with the racket that the little troublemakers made. I'm with him on this one more due to the piranha quality they have wehn you're trying to feed them. The GCCs were the best babies until they fledged then all hell broke loose. This was however due to Rebel constantly stirring up the other 2 and fighting. BTW he's still a little sod hence he's stayed with us. Love the lorikeets but not on my baby list. Just as well Pip and Olly tolerate each other and nothing more.

I agree with you on the noise of the lorrikeets. We have heaps of rainbows and scaley breastes around here and I love watching them but OMG how noisy are they!!( especially when they demand a feed at 5am!!)

Yep the visiting baby lorries make an awful racket here too but my one baby princess could scream like no tomorrow too when he was hungry and a (sorry if I haven't got the name perfect) blue striped honey eater? (olive coloured bird with blue streak from its eyes, white chest) have learnt to mimic the cries of my baby tiels. First couple of times I heard it I went looking for a stray baby that had flown in

I should go find my Wildlife of Brisbane book and find the proper name, I think it is a honey eater and it's always on my grevilla

We are going to Fingal bay every summer. This year my hubby didn't want us to take Chico (peach face love bird) with us (budgie stays at friends every time). I was upset but couldn't change his mind. We took him with us last year and he was perfect. So we are coming to a beautiful house we were renting, quiet dead end street, palms, close to beach and we settle. Next morning 6:15 we woke up to our horror to such a noise I couldn't believe my ears! I stumble to backyard and see the tree full of lorikeets! Started counting and stopped at 30. Fortunatelly I had my ear plugs with me (just in case) and my hubby would wrap his ears with pillow while party was going on. 8am they all fly away. Next door lady said they were coming to that tree for years but not sleeping there, just in the mornings and evenings. Sort of party time and get together I reckon.
Here at home I am getting in trouble because I kept feeding lorikeets and they kept coming back. I don't mind evenings but mornings are not good. It might be too late but it is too hard to ignore them because they sit on the balcony and wait the curtain to move...

lol yes the lorikeets are extremely noisy hey. They almost drove me crazy many years ago when I was feeding them on my back verandah. Apart from the mess, the noise was just so loud. I stopped feeding them and they stopped coming onto my verandah. I love them in the trees, but not on my verandahs now. ;D
