This is my baby Jewey as u would have seen from my intro.... My question is why is around his mouth black??? i hope u can see this by the picture. I have had him at the vets to have it checked, i thought possibly mites, a fungus or something of these sorts. I had him checked for mites etc at the vets and they couldnt find anything wrong...infact she 'accussed' me of not feeding him the 'right' foods, to which as im sure most would i got my back up and expained that he has seed, which contains all sorts in it down to sunflower seeds, corn and peanuts etc, red millet spray and fruit and vegies. She suggested i change from seed to pallets which was imported here by one person who lives miles away from Auckland and was some amazingly expensive price. After visiting the vets i took jewey to the pet shop where i got the breeding pair of lutinos from as i knew both ppl working there have and do breed ringnecks which they said he was fine and in beautiful health and the only thing they could see was he could have been cross bred with another type of parrot. Jewey is approx about 7-8 mths old, i got him when he was still one 1-2 handfeeds a day and this marking happened around 2 or more months ago ...at first i thought it was some type of brusing from erm flying into my window but has not disappeared...any ideas or suggestions what to do please?? thanks

Hi Mystical As Bill said that's normal for ringies so don't worry too much about it. As far as diet is concerned a good small parrot mix of seed is fine and there is no need to change over to pellets, just add some nice fresh fruit and vegies to the diet, add a dash of tender loving care and you will have a very happy and healthy Ringneck.
