My dad has a 4 yr old green/blue cockbird, he has just lost his hen and is going to get the male a new partner, this male obviously has had some Alexandrine in the lines somewhere as he is a very large bird with a boffy Alex head and he also has faint but distinct red shoulder patches that we where told would moult out but they didn't. Dad wants to know weither it would be worth while getting an Alex hen to put with him? this bird is not much smaller than an Alexandrine but is a bit more slender like a ringie, what would your advise be?

I am not for cross breeding birds...But if he must I would go with a ring neck..for there are to many alex crosses about there. And people try to pass on as a full one...

ok, should he go back to a blue hen, or if he bred to a grey hen, would he get greygreens and greys as well as blues and greens? When he first got this bird he knew nothing about ringnecks, when I first saw it I knew straight away he had Alex in him, he contacted the breeder who insists he is pure ringneck, but no way is it pure with the shoulder patches and headshape etc. He does breed georgess babies with very gentle natures though, ideal for handraising, infact the last chicks he pulled at 4 weeks old and had no probs handfeeding them and they are the most adorable freindly pets (I have two) If I pulled mine at 4 weeks I wouldn't even be able to get them to feed, but these just settle in fine.

If the male is spilt to blue..I would say you would get blues and greens,if breed to a blue female...Any other colour would give you green spilts...I would think..
