I purchased my new ringneck three weeks ago. Was told it was 10 weeks old. It's a beautiful bird, quite tame but it cries. Has bonded to me more than any other family member, will step up, take food, let me stroke its back, etc, but it sits on my hand or shoulder with its mouth open and makes a little crying noise, which I think may be it trying to get me to feed it. I just want to know that its is OK.

I am assuming the crying noise is "begging" As long as the bird is eating well and a good variety of food and as long as the bird is about 10 weeks old and has been weaned properly I would say he is fine. You just might have to bear with it until he grows out of it. Have you taken the bird to a vet to get the once over, just to make sure he has nothing wrong that could be causing him to be hungry.........thus crying to be fed??? I would consider doing that so I could rest assured all is well and then just perservere with the crying until he grows out of it.

Yep sounds like classic begging for food soo. You said you were told it was 10 weeks old at this age it will beg and you have to be careful you don't over feed the little one, the bird, if it was hand raised and i assume it was, was used to three feeds a day and as far as it is concerned it should be still getting them, however the breeder that sold him to you should have made sure it was fledged and eating by it's self. You might have to give the little one a top up feed once a day and make sure it is eating by it's self, let us know how you go.
