my ringnecks have been sitting on eggs for a month so i checked them they looked infertile so i cracked them open and there was a fully formed chick in one of the eggs it was alive so i put the baby in the nest log( i had open the box before with both of the parents in the log so i could get the eggs (thinking they were infertile) out then waited till they got out.) i hope they aren't scared to get in the log cause the baby needs to get a feed and kept warm . What should i do ? i don't think you can rear it so young can anyone tell me what i should do thanx tori

Bugger Tori, I hope all goes well. Although it is hard work you can h/rear them at this age. Was there any blood coming out when you cracked the egg. Fingers crossed for you that all goes & the baby survives. Cheers Anna

I know how you felt... My partner did that once with an egg when we first started breeding ringnecks but it wasn't formed hardly at all. We have never done it since just in case. I guess we all live and learn eh?

Hi Guys the only time i find assisting a hatch is necessary is when a large hole starts to appear, indicating the chick cannot rotate or is stuck to the membrane, other than that if an egg has gone dark then you know its time to throw it out! cheers Frank

So sorry to hear that Tori. I'm sure next time around you will have some babies. On thinking about the eggs perhaps the female layed the one with the live chick in it at a later stage. I hope I didn't confuse you in any way with the checking of the eggs to see if they were infertile or not. If I did then please accept my apologies. Cheers Anna
