Daisy (lutino ringneck) is loseing all the feathers on the back of her head, I've treated her for mite and lice in case that was the problem even though she is in with all the others and they don't have any problems at all, I can see the feather shaft appears to be rotting out or something, any way the shaft is black and the featers fall out and she is just left with a tiny black scab , she isn't itchy or scratching at all, and it started on the back or her head where so can't pluck the featers and I've been watching closely and none of the pther birds are plucking her so what can it be?

Sounds like Daisy is the victim of a feather plucker and now possibly she has developed feather rot which can be a problem maybe time to see the vet but firstly make sure none of the other birds are doing it to her! Frank

Thanks Frank, I might stick her upstairs by herself for a while, I've read up a bit on feather rot so I'll watch her closely to make sure it doesn't get worse otherwise its off to the vet. Kim

ok Daisy is still loseing her feathers, we've seen the local vet who said he doesn't know much about birds but gave me the number of another vet (supposidly an avian vet) I rang this vet and explained and he says he has never heard of feather rot and so I found him usless, I've done a bit of research and it seems a product called acidised copper sulphate is used to treat this condition, can anyone tell me where to get this product and how it should be used, she is getting much worse, also is this something that is catchy? should I put her back with Azureher partner or not? they drive me nuts screeching at each other.

Hi John, I've just spoken to the chemist and they tell me acidised copper sulphate is a discontinued line, they have copper sulphate, but now I can't find the articleI was reading about it to find out if its ok to use this and if so how much, hope someone can helpme with this one, Daisy is a great little girl, most unlike a lot of other ringneck hens who get a bit bitey.
