At the moment I've got two Ringneck chicks I'm feeding, bred from my own birds. One is 23 days old and the other is about 21 days. The younger one is going good, still getting used to the spoon, but will sit up and likes to be handled. His pins should start opening any day now. He's beautiful !! The other one is a different story. Does the 'I'm going to crawl on my belly and try to get away from you' act. Still eats enough but would rather not be near me. Makes it so much harder to feed him like this. Is there anything I can do to calm him down and realise I'm no threat? I guess just handling him a lot more than the younger one would help him. The older one has started to pin Green. I think I'm more of an Alexandrine girl, they are such a treat to hand raise !!! So big and goofy. Hope someone can shine some help my way Chelsey ...

Hi, You may already be doing this but I would try handling and feeding them at the same time so the timid one can be reassured by its sibling and hopefully copy it too. Perhaps sit them in a basket together as you feed?? Good Luck

Thanks for that. Actually I'm feeding them seperate. The younger one tends to just sit there, without needing holding, so tomorrow I will try and feed them together. Maybe on the second feed of the day so I'm more alert !! Don't enjoy morning feeds

My alex girl that I raised was like that..............always going flat and trying to get away. Good luck. The alex boy I am raising now is sooooo much different and a real pleasure.
Yes I like the idea of feeding together to show the timid one there is nothing to be scared of. I do that with new birds who may not be so tame (in the long distant past that is) LOL The past 15 years I mostly get my birds handraised or try to get them about 3/4 weeks to raise.

They're both doing well now, even the scared one feeds great. Though he still tries to get away when I apparoach him. If he can improve in only a week I see him getting a lot better in the next few weeks.

That is great. I'm sure he'll settle right down when you go near him very soon.

I have found ringnecks to be like that when you take then from the nest a bit older. I like to feed ringnecks from 12 days old. I agree with you give me alex's any day to handrear they are such a pleasure.
