Hello people,
Wondering if i need to cut my alexandrines nails or do birds not need to have their nails clipped?
I have one of those cement perches to trim his nails down but it doesn't seem to work.
Thanks alot

i have heared alot about them perches and everywere i have read sais NOT to use them as they hurt the birds feet and cause blisters. now yes im pretty sure you have to clip the nails but i would take it to avain vet if you have never done it before as he/she can show you what you have to do.

kuruptz, get yourself a copy of Birdkeeper or Aviary Life magazines. They are both australian mags that come out every 2 months, in the back are list of avian vets.
I'm sure we've had some discussions here on the forum re perches, sounds like you've already read them though. I prefer natural branches myself.

yes their nails do need clipping from time to time. I have done them occassionally but mostly they seem ok.

Dr. James Gill is located at Canley Heights, which is not too far from Liverpool. I believe he is the Patron of the Parrot Breeders & Exhibitors Society of NSW. Here are his details:
Dr. James Gill Shop 6, cnr of Harden St and Avoca Rd Canley Heights Ph: (02) 96049792
Hope this information helps, Andrew

Don't use cement perches or sand paper covers, they will hurt your birds feet. Always use calcuim perches or natural branches they are both safe to use.
