Hi, i've just become the proud owner of 2 beautiful ringnecks (breeding pair), they recently laid 3 eggs but 2 were infertile and the third was DIS. Was just wondering if people could give me any advice that they think would be helpful as I do not know much about these birds so any advice would be great ThanksMelissa

;)Welcome Meldraco Personally haven't had a pair.......but have a pair in the name of Human nature..lol.. I own a Indian Ringneck named Mylo and she yep.. has laid eggs to prove it Last year she laid eggs thinking, l was her mate in her nest box "so to speak" Anyway good to see you here and pic's of your pair would be great to see.. The only advice l hear is the female can be aggressive towards the male when breeding and can be damaging (thank goodness l am human?)..lol.. Hopefully being new here someone can help

Hi Meldraco and Welcome I can't say I've bred irns but most parrots are similar in this type of problem, clear eggs can be from the hen laying before mating or not being old enough, some breeding probs can come from birds not being in great condition, if you've just got this pair maybe the didn't have the best diet before you got them, maybe they failed to sit tight on the eggs and incubate properly. It can be very hard to know why, a good pair of my 'tiels who usually breed well every year failed to hatch even 1 chick first sitting this season, 2nd time they have 2 bubs. Some people even say hens can control their fertility depending on the weather and will not produce if its going to be too dry to feed the young when they hatch. I would clean the box out, take it away for a week to make sure they're mating before she lays and make ure they get plenty of F & V. Good Luck for next round

Hi Meldraco, welcome. You have a beautiful pair of IRNs. My dad had a pair for 4 yrs before they bred, and they only hatched their bubs after dad died, so he never got to see them. They make lovely pets, and can they talk. Please keep the photos coming and keep us informed on what they get up to.

wow, they are a nice looking pair of IRN's. I have a pair of blues who laid 5 eggs and all of them were clear. I have cleaned the box out and taken it way for 10 days. I put it back in again a couple of days ago but as yet she doesnt even seem slightly interested in going back in. I know they will breed bacause they have done it before!!! Birds can be so frustrating cant they?!?!?!

LOL they certainly can be frustrating.
Checked her box this morning and she has been in and moved all the shavings I but in there to one side, and I thought she hadn't been near it since i cleaned it out.
Will keep you posted, and let me know if you have any luck too
