Mothers day this year i bought a pair of Yellow Canaries as we had lost our other pair that we had inside. They were young birds and the male was a good whistler, and so it would seem a good father too as we now have three lovely little babies an added bonus.

Congratulations John, My John loves canaries and a few years ago I bought him a pair for his birthday. We had them in a nice cage in the enclosure where my birds are now and thought they'd be OK. You wouldn't believe it but next morning we had a carpet snake in the cage with 2 lumps in it and it couldn't get back through the wire because it was too fat. So sad that we have never got canaries again. But I think I have to try again now and keep them inside.

the only advice I can give you regarding breeding them is keep them in a warm and draft free area, feed them lots of egg and biscuit mix with plenty of greens. We found that if we gave them a cup nest and plenty of nesting material that consisted of nesting grass and feathers the hen built the nest, with a little help from us, she then laid and hatched the babies. Dad helps with the feeding of the babies and feeds mum too while she sits on the little ones.

Yes Polly they sure are and they have grown so quickly, the cage is getting a bit crowded at the moment.
