What goodies do I put in the aviary (when I get it) for my quails for nesting purposes. I currently have 2 boy king quail so need to try and find a couple of females (they're hard to find at present, but I cant' have 2 boys trying to breed, already have 2 Gay Pierre budgies, lol).
Do they have boxes or do they build their own nest? If so, what should I put in for them?

They will use all types of things. Grass, leaves..Feathers from your birds...They use the floor.Normaly in a corner..You can put plant pots on there sides..Or make a small shelter out of wood..Or a log that is cut in half, turn so that they only have it as a roof...

I would aslo watch for fighting.Have two boys once you get girls is not a good idea. This only works is you have a very large avairy....They are like chickens..you can have a pen with all males with out them fighting..But bring in a girl you are asking for trouble..

If your avairys are small. You are better with one pair..I have had two pairs in a 8x8 metre with no problem...

i find in any sized aviry that if you have more than one pair they fight and will kill each others male babies so i stick to one pair

I have a trio (2 hens and a cock) in quite a small aviary and they are sitting on 5 eggs at the moment. No probs at all except the canaries pinch their feathers straight of their backs for their own nest. LOL,.

My budgies are always harrassing the poor quails in my avairy. Otherwise my quails lay hundreds of eggs and roll them around.... they just won't sit still on them. Even in aviaries without budgies the longest I had a quail sit was 16 days. I have half logs and various houses made from pots etc and have tried all sorts of bedding I think I'm just not meant to get baby quails.

maybe something is scaring or upsetting the birds off their nests?

Mine are still sitting (fingers crossed for a hatching soon).
BTW how long do they take to hatch?
My pair of canaries in the other cage have plucked most of the leg and body feathers off my harlequin masked doves now so I now have bald quails and doves LOL.....darn things!!! but at least the canaries are all sitting on 4 eggs each pr and 1 pr have a month old baby in there as well.
My place is jumping with eggs and babies of all kinds (finches, doves, quails, canaires and polish bantam babies.
Nothing wrong with my eggs LOL

Wow I was wrong! I thought I would never hatch a baby quail but I am happy to say I have 1 this morning. Cool. Of course now mum quail has run off with this chick and left the rest of the eggs. I can't remember now do you take the dad quail away?

Just an update on my eggs. All was going well until the other day I noticed a half shell in the aviary.Upon further inspection I found 4 dead babies . Well needless to say the male is now by himself and the 2 girls are locked in a smaller cage within the aviary...brighter side I suppose is they proved they were all fertile and capable to hatch their eggs.
