Hi all, We fixed up the old "budgie palace" on the weekend and have just bought 3 pairs of finches. We will be picking up another couple of pairs next weekend from a different shop, as a way of getting different bloodlines. ( I may be wrong but my reasoning is if you buy them all from the one place the more chance you get of in breeding) Any suggestions to a good place to get them from , (southern Sydney) We got these from a near by petshop, (not my usual) but I dont have much faith in them
Any tips tricks on diet ect? Nest baskets is there a "ratio" of birds to nests, we have 4 in atm?
I love these guys already they are so sweet,
Ps Miss Bella is going great,
ta in advance for your help

If your getting zebra finches Sue I wouldn't worry too much about in breeding you will find Zebra's breed like wildfire and in breeding is quite common in them.
Their diet is mainly seed, they are real seed heads, but they do eat fruit such as apple and corn cobs also, they love their nest covered in and I always found the cane nests were very well accepted by them, if you supply them with seed grass and feathers they will build the nests up themselves just put the material on the floor of the aviary and they will go crazy and build up a nest in no time.
I used to by my finches from better birds at Padstow and always found Kevin had a good selection there, his birds were always healthy and he always had plenty of different colours, it would pay to give him a ring first to check if he has any in stock, the number is 97733096 and he is open every day except Tuesday.
I haven't kept Zebra finches for years but I always remember them to be great breeders and lots of fun good luck with them.

Hi Sue, I just picked up some Zeb's really cheap on the weekend in a "lot" deal and have some excess so if you are interested let me know. There are normals as well as some other colours in there but be aware I am not letting anything with a hint of blue in it go . Sorry have a thing about blue in my animals/birds right down to the blue chooks and the blue cat
