As people know I rescue avairy birds and regularly place wanted adverts on other sites.
Well this morning i received an email froma nice man offering me his collection of finches and canaries.
Turns out he had a pr of king quail,a pr of zebbies,a pr of St helena's (i think thats what they are),1 chestnut cock bird,5 mannikins and wait for it 11 canaries.
Poor things are in a bit of a sad state but a few weeks and they will be back in shape and rearing to go....some beautiful birds in this collection but alas some canaires will have to go so if anyone is interested give me a yell and for a donation (monetary or feed)you will have a canary.

Are the Canaries old birds Sebastian are they breeders? If you have pairs I might be interested in taking some off your hands.

Oldest hen has a leg ring that says she is 5...haven't sexed everyone yet and unsure of other birds ages. There were 2 nests with eggs and 1 fledgling.Fledgling is bout 3-4 weeks old.
I think there diet hsa been a bit lacking as feathers are broken or missing from several of the canaries.Finches look in great shape though.
Going to mite/lice spray everyone and give them a good worm and some decent food and see how they all go.Their weights are all ok but they just lack condition.
There so many nests in the aviary (all here now) LOL,that I don't think the birds could decide where they wanted to really nest.
All are happily quarantined and settled now so will keep you posted as I don't want to passs problems around until I sort them out...saves upsetting other ppls birds un-neccesarily.

Some will definately be staying Jane....I do breed them after all,or at least trying to get a colony up and running. But I am trying to not have the canaries breeding in my large communal aviary as I place my youngsters in there until I decide what is going or staying.
In a way it was really exciting going from 9 (2 r h/r fledglings,3 r this seasons young) canaries to 21 in one go.
John does a "frizzle type" canary exist or one where the feathers "turn outwards"?

Just an update....everyone has been wormed and lice/mite sprayed (normal for me with new birds) and apart from losing a few finches all are doing VERY well and 4-6 canaries are now avail to good homes for a bag of seed.
I am keeping some that I happened to fall in love with.
