i have finches, quail and diamond doves. are there any other species of birds that will go well in here or should i just stock up on the finches?? i will have 3 pairs of finches and probably 2 pairs of diamond doves for breeding already + quail. i really like the finches but they are very expensive.. are they easy to sell if i lower the price a bit to compete with the pet shops or do i need to go to bird sales to sell my birds?

It probably depends how much room you have, they might look to have alot of space but from experiance once they all have babies it all gets abit crowded. I have been told diamond doves should be kept in single pairs because they are very agressive to their own species, although they can be kept with most other birds. If you do want some variety in your aviary have a look at the neophema type parrots, they are peaceful and come in great colours

i play on cutting down my doves (i have 8) as i just have what came with the aviary. i am just waiting for them to pair up so i know who is male and who is female. i will end up with 1 pair of the doves and 3 pairs of finch (i will remove the young at 4 weeks so it doesn't get too crowded.) the aviary is 6feet X 6feet. is this enough birds already?
i will have a look at the neophema type parrots and see what i think.

Shannon, have a look at the ring around the outside of the eye of the dove, the one with the bigger ring is the male bird. As far as the number of birds in the aviary, especially finches, you could have as many as a dozen birds in an aviary that size as long as the birds are compatable with each other.

hey john, is this counting quail as well or just ones that take up flying space? i am looking at building aviaries already but havn't yet thaught of where... on our 20 acres we should b able to fins somewhere but wherever they are dad won't be happy. i'll have 2 stop as 6 pairs then.. i will remove young when old enough if and when they breed.

The ones that take up the flying space Shannon the quail are a bonus.
