I had read abot it but hadn't tried it until today. I went down to get termites just now & I got some ant eggs the type we used to call "Sugar Ants " as kids, they don't bite. Well anyway I got some of their eggs & a few ants as well as my termites. When I got back to the Finch aviary I was flicking the Sugar Ants out & saw that the Quail dived on them & squaffed em down, while the Finches-- Hecks, Parsons, Painteds & Stars dived on the egg of the Sugar Ants, as well as the termites of course. You would have thought they hadn't been fed for days by the way they ate ;D ;D ;D

my nephew breeds meal worms for me to feed my birds. its a good partnership we have..he loves playing with little bugs and i like feeding them to my birds!! I pay him $5 a week to keep me in supply so he thinks its great having his own money ($5 is a lot of money to get every week for a 7 year old i guess!!) it doesnt seem to matter how many i put into my quails they gulp them up like they havent been feed for weeks!!!

I have my own little Meal worm farm here in the kitchen. I give them to the Finches daily & they eat them like toothpaste being squeezed out of a tube then spit the shells over the side. The quail seem to know that there are bodies to be had & wait under the seed dish for them bodies to fall. The Finches don't eat all the termites so they wait for them too It's fun to watch ;D ;D
