I try to resist the temptation to look into any of my finches nests for fear of scaring them off. today though I felt it had to be done as recently there has been a lot of nesting material disappear. turns out that the orange breasted pair have built & are sitting on 3 or 4 eggs, entrance to their nest is only about 3/4" wide so its hard to see much. the st helena waxbills have 8 eggs, 15 last time with no luck all were clear, if the eggs are clear this time I'll be looking for a new male lol. the african firefinches(ruddies) must have only just started their nest as the male is still building but the female is sitting on 3 eggs. bengalese are due to hatch in about 3-4 days, while the button quail should be a day earlier. now if only the gouldians and emblemas will get busy lol

forgot to mention that there were two female quail sitting. the first is sitting nonlonger as she had two babies hatch ( from 6 eggs) yesterday. even with the heat we have had here yesterday & today (39 degrees c) they are both running around eating, just hope they can survive the coming week which is supposed to be 35 or hotter. the other female is sitting on 6 eggs, wonder how many of these will hatch out.

the second female quail gave up on her eggs, a shame but I have so many quail at present it doesnt really matter, time to give a few away. the bengalese eggs haven't hatched, so I think they are duds. the firefinches must have started laying before they started building lol, cos there are 3 - 4 very young babies in their nest. the st helenas have started on nest no 3, every egg so far has been clear on inspection after they give up on the nest. but best of all the gouldians have a nest with three eggs in it
