Hello, I have another question about colours in red rumps. I have a nicely coloured blue opaline cock who is currently a lonely guy looking for love. I have seen a hen advertised as "silver" opaline which you have told me is a combination of blue and cinnamon. So babies would be opaline, what colours would they be? Does anyone have a pic of silver opaline and cinnamon opaline? Also would a 2004 hen be suitable to get for him? He is about 3. Or is that some kind of bird pedophilia? Thank you!!

Hi JmsBone If you cross a blue Opaline Cockbird with a Cinnamon hen it will take approximatly three generations to produce Cinnamon Opaline / Blue hens, once you have done that the next generation will produce Cinnamon Opaline Blue Cocks.
Because the blue mutation is recessive both cocks and hens can be split so to produce anything special you will have to back breed the offspring.
You may not get anything from a 2004 hen it depends on when she was hatched, hens usually need a full 12 months, probably more, to become mature Cockbirds I would not expect her to breed until she was at least 2 on the other hand can breed at 12 months ;D
