hello all it has been said that if a lutio has a bald spot it is not a good idea to breed it back to another lutino but is it ok to put it back to a any other colour
my thought is if you put it back with another colour then you would breed the bald spot out or is this wrong
any thoughts on this would be great regards bill

Hey Bill,
I bred the bald spot out by breeding mine back to greys with nice big crests. Mind you the original lutino I had, had a very small bald spot to begin with. Choice of good breeeding stock is important here, in that choose birds with good feather coverage and clean plumage. Also get a look at the parents if possible, maybe buy a lutino from grey parents (although that is no guarantee - I've seen some pretty ratty looking lutinos come from grey parents).

Hi Bill in simple terms by breeding a Lutino male with a bald spot to another color will still always produce Lutino hens (with a bald spot guaranteed) and males that will be split Lutino and split whatever color the mum is! and as soon as these splits breed the bald spot will be back. by breeding a Lutino hen with a bald spot her offspring males will be split to Lutino bald spot included sorry but once you have it it is very hard to get rid off it only countless outcrossing to normals will eventually succeed!

Another question on Lutino tiels. I know that a Lutino father produces female Lutino babies. But does a Lutino hen produce male Lutino babies. None of my girls have bred as yet so am wondering.

Hi laraine No its not the reverse the only way to produce Lutino males Laraine is if both parents are lutino remembering Lutino is sex linked therefore dad can be split to lutino but mum must be visually Lutino ;)cheers

My three Lutino girls are all paired up with pied and grey, so I might get pied babies hopefully.
