Hi , Hope that someone can tell me please what mutation of tiel I have here. This is the best picture that I can supply with many thanks to chickabee (deb), help to get it to even look like a baby tiel. ;D ;D ;D ;D. Seems the digital camera I have is real cr####py & I cannot take close up pics otherwise they come out blurry. The mother of this baby is a lutino pearl split for pied & the father is w/face split for pied & something else. Unfortunately the father who is a feather plucker grrrrr & who I don't like using as a breeder, got to the little one a day before I was due to take out for h/rearing. The baby in this picture is not quite 4 weeks old & has a lot of yellow feathers on the back of its head & under the belly Many thanks Anna PS Hope that I have done this right as I have never used photobucket before.

It looks to me by the photo to be a cinnamon pearl split pied hen. It could also be a platinum pearl split to pied hen. It is hard to tell from the photo these 2 colours look very much the same in photos. Your cock bird would be either carrying cinnamon or platinum and pearl. I am about 90% sure it is cinnamon.

Thanks John, very much apppreciated posting it in the forum. New to all of this but I will learn how to do it properly hopefully from my good mate Bill ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D. Thanks petiel, sorry the photo is not fantastic but no the father is not split for cinnamon or pearl as I breed him to a cinnamon female & they produced normals but split. The baby is very silvery in colour so I am hoping it will be a platinum & it does not have any pearling in it either, more pied markings. Thanks for your help. Cheers Anna

Hi Anna, Looks to me like a platinum split pied or very light pied. It is hard to tell exactly what colour the crest feathers are. If they are yellow then it would be a light pied. If it is a male chick it will be a platino. So if you have a male it will be either a platino pied split to pearl and whiteface or a platino split pied wf and pearl. If its a hen then it will be platinum pied split whiteface or platinum split pied and whiteface. Regards Jo-Anne

Whoo hoo thanks Jo- Anne. From pictures that I have seen I think you could be right in it is a platinum or a platino depending on sex. The baby has yellow crest feathers with a touch of silver through it. I am really chuffed as this happened purely by accident. I have 2 more babys from this pair but they are more lutino pied in colour with a touch of silver through their tails & wings. Many thanks Anna ;D ;D ;D

Hi Anna as the photo is very blurry i can also add that there is definately no pearl there to me it looks like a Platinum-Cinnamon obvious split pied tick marks but if you check the eyes out for me at dark with a torch to confirm if they ruby or a plum color to confirm the mutation A platino is a lot lighter which can be ruled out no matter what the mutation status is the bird is definately a hen cheers frank

Hi anna just reading your post again maybe the other 2 chicks are not Lutino Pieds but Platino pieds and must be males as the description you give is typical of Platino

Many thanks Frank for your help. Checked out the babys eyes & they all look like a dark plum colour in the dark. Sorry about this but I am use to my more normal looking babies LOL, this came as a great surprise hence my confusion. I have lutinos & cinnamons so i know their eye colour & their feather colour, thats why these babies threw me. Cheers Anna

Thank you Frank, you are an absolute gem & your advise is greatly appreciated & welcomed ;D & I am very excited to have a new mutation even though I find this mutation a bit confusing but I will learn all about it & do the right thing & hopefully pair the birds up correctly. I am hoping this year to finally breed some visaual w/faces after 3 years of careful breeding from my own stock but that is half the fun I rekon. Many thanks again for everyones help. Cheers Anna
