In my travels around the wide world of internet I came across a site that stated they breed whiteface pastel silver cockatielsand also pastel-silver/white face.
I was wondering your opinions as to the pros and cons of each.
Thanks ;D Kazz

kazz, that is 100% correct. bird showing it is a w/face -pastel-silver, or west- coast silver they are known as also? 2nd one , showing pastel-silver but split 4 w/face? pastel or west coast silver has been around many yrs now. a pastel silver or w/coast is worth no more than $ 30 these days. i payed $ 50 for a hen with a unusual patient on it's back 7yrs ago from val newman a breeder from sydney. a few people got duded a few yrs back with these birds ?some were passed off as platiniums to the unwary?leeroy may be back to 80% of his unusual self now.

Ok Frank, tell me if I have this right. if you breed a pastelface silver to a wf silver. the pastel effect gives you pastel silver babies in both wf and pastelface.
Just out of curiosity how much do you think a pastelface platinum would be?

Hi Karen you are correct but drop the Pastel effect. In Silvers the name Pastel was added only for its tones it's not a seperate gene that Pastelises melanin (color). A Pastelface Pastel Silver has 2 different genes 1 Pastelface Gene which has wface in it's make up and Dominant to Wface 2 Pastel Silver a name given to a Dilute form of Silver gene which is a Recessive gene! The terminology in Pastel has no bearing in both varieties just a naming right but because Pastelface is Dominant to Whiteface when paired together you will produce a clutch of both Pface and Wface in any Mutation! A Bit difficult to explain in words! A Pastelface Platinum in Breeding Condition is worth $180 Juveniles $140-150 in Victoria maybe a tad cheaper up North cheers Frank

I saw an add yesterday asking 300$ for Pastelface Pastel-Silver The bird in my avatar is one and i sell them approx $200! Just remember Kazz that Pastel-Silver is a name given for a recessive gene and has nothing to Pastelface! Combine the 2 to produce the Pface Pastel-Silver! ;D Frank

Frank, I think I get what you mean with the pastel-silvers. I think my brain is finally starting to work genetically ;D
When breeding season kicks in I think I'd like to get a wf pastel-silver from you. (Same as the one on your website if possible)
