Hi, I was at a bird auction yesterday and there were these two WF (hens?) with pearling just on the wings and the rest grey with the ususal barring etc on back/tails. Anyway, I was told by a long-time breeder that they weren't pearls, they were lace wings, since they didn't have pearling down the front. Is this right? I wanted to buy one until he said that, as I'm not familiar with that mutation and I thought they were the same thing. Lacewing doesn't show up on the genetic calculators I've seen either.

I've been researching and it looks like they are the same mutation, with a different visual effect. I guess it comes down to appearances........
Drats, I missed out! Oh well, you live and learn hey?!

Lacewing is another name for pearling with an intense pattern on the wings but the true definition for both is Opaline Frank

Wrong Frank!
'Pearl' in Cockatiels is a Opaline mutation
'Lacewing' in Cockatiels (and all birds for that matter) is a combination of CinnamonLutino
They are not the same mutation at all

Lacewings appear in most of the parrot varieties Laraine Cockatiels, Ringnecks and Budgies to name a few I guess the best way to describe them is if you remember what my tame cockatiel looks like they are not dissimilar.

I have a silver lacewing and a blue hen. Which colours of cock birds could I put them with to produce the best colours?
