I have some King Quails and last season the hen had multiple hatches. This seasons she has been sitting on 6 eggs for over 4 weeks now and as, I believe, they usually only take 3 weeks to hatch, I'm not sure if I should take them off her. Any suggestions?

Hi RoscoesSlave,
I would say that they are not going to hatch if it has been that long..I have king quails as well..They are not always firtile...I have mine on eggs as well and they havent hatched..I have leafted mine there to give her a break..But yes you can take them away from her..you could just check one egg to see if they do have chicks in them...

Help!!!! i have 2 hens in one cage and another 2 in another with a male and whenever one of the hens lay eggs about 10-15 days later they are abandoned and left for me to throw out , this happens with the other 2 hens, i don't understand if it could be the male getting jealous or maybe he's infertile or if i should split one hen and the male into a separate cage. any suggestions?

I've found that quails are really frustrating breeders. I have 1 who has laid about 100 eggs over the last few years, sits on them for a while and they abandones them. Very frustrating. Probably gets bored just sitting there.

i have one now that is laying and it looks like it might actually stay on them. I think that its because i took the male out and put him a few cages down, same with the 2nd female that was in the same cage... sorry i'm all the way down in shepparton.. hopefully i'll have some luck

I have 2 pairs of King quails, 1 pair in a avairy of its own... I only put 1 female and 1 male together... I have never had a male kill a female or a male kill its own young... My females build a nest in a corner and sit on the eggs till they hatch... All babies hatch at the same time... Any eggs left unhatched are most lucky infertile...Every so often the girls come off to eat and drink and do their business and on hot days I find they dont sit all day, the eggs stay warm themselves... Good luck with your quails...

Probably not Shannon more than likely she will ignore the eggs and continue to lay as she feels the urge, Quail are strange birds and will give you a lot of head scratching with their breeding, my advice is accept them for what they are, very small chooks and will do a great job of keeping the floor of your aviary clean, if they breed for you great, if not, oh well that's quail for you.
