Good-day everyone, I've got a pair of Red-fronted yellow turq's that have decided to lay totally out of the blue !! I hadn't prepared the nest box or anything but they've gone ahead anyway and laid straight onto the wooden floor. I'm unsure as to when they started laying but I only have 1 egg at present but a female absent without leave during the day. This is the first pairing for both birds and this is their first attempt. I'm interested in opinions here again. 1) What chances the egg/ 's are actually furtile ? 2) Should I set-up the box and replace the eggs into nesting material ?? (Don't like the idea of disturbing the eggs very much after my previous experience with my rainbows !) 3) This is my first go with turq's as well. Can anybody tell me what the 'normal' size clutch would be ? I've read anywhere from 2 to 8 and this appears to be a big range to me !! My red-rumps are going really well and the guys are correct, certainly 2 lutino hens.........I have some questions on the other one though.....looks awfully like a cinnamon (just like Mum !!) I'll post some up-to-date photo's shortly for you all to look at. Cheers Viraba

Turks are free breeders!! I've heard many reports from people about them breeding just about anywhere and at any time.
Put in a nest box and nesting material. If you see them inspecting the box - place the egg inside. The hen should finish off the clutch in the box.
Good luck!!!

Turq's lay 5-6 eggs and incubation takes about 19 days
