Well, there hasn't been much breeding news lately in this thread .. so I'll add mine.
My p/face have managed to hatch 1 beautiful chick. Its a big baby too and already has eyes open and starting to get pin feathers. I'm not sure what it is going to turn out to be as its possible to get pied, pearl and normals from this pair, so I'm waiting for the pin feathers to get longer. It was very pale and not so much down as usual cockatiel chicks, but mum and dad are looking after it very well.
Also the quails manage to hatch out 5 chicks, but they only have 1 left. 3 died, and 1 mysteriously disapeared. I removed the male after the first chick died, but they still kept on dying - Scarlets wouldn't attack the chicks would they?

Hi Claire, congrats on the new chick, hope you get the chance to get a pic of him, I'd love to see his baby photo....... are they king quails that you have and did you see if there were any bite marks on the chicks at all.....I had baby king quails once and they drove me nuts as they were getting thru the smallest of holes....I fixed the problem by putting a fly screen mesh strip around the bottom of the aviary.....that fixed them till they grew a bit bigger.

ha ha ha .. what a dill I am! I meant Pastleface - not peachface! he he .. sorry bout that.
I bricked in the King Quail aviary before they hatched, there's no way they could get out unless they can climb up the wire and through the holes? I couldn't see any bite marks or anything on the dead chicks - they were just dead. All found in the same location in the aviary too?

ha ha ha ... would you believe it!? After all the trouble I had trying to get my pairs down, the pastelface/whiteface pair have double brooded! Their lovely and very large pf-pearl chick is due to fledge this week with mum on three eggs. Sometimes our birds give us the nicest of surprises .

The second clutch has begun to hatch, so far we have 1 whiteface and 1 pastelface chick, 1 egg pipping and 2 eggs to go, although one egg looks like DIS. Some bad news though - the first clutch chick who fledged last week looks to have broken her ankle . She isn't standing on it and when I investigated it, the foot was limp and would not grip. Poor darling. Looks like a trip to the vet is in order. ~:>
