Good-day Everyone, back from hols and enjoying catching up on things !!!!!! My sister looked after my birds for me while I was away and I've come back to : - 3 red-fronted yellow turq chicks (2 male & 1 female). I was really surprised by how quickly these fellows hatched and fledged. I was about to take out the nesting box and had a look inside and Mum is down on another 4 eggs already !!! - Rosa Burkes sitting on 6 eggs.........been a while though and I suspect that these may be infertile but Mum is still sitting tight ! May need to pinch the eggs and 'candle' them. Does anybody know the gestation time for these guys.......I thought about 21 days - Red-rumps down on another 4 eggs. These are the guys who had three chicks before Christmas. I'll post some other photo's of the first 3 chicks when I get a chance. I've certainly got 2 lutino hen's and I was fairly certain that I also had a cinnamon hen. On coming back from hols I've noticed a fairly obvious red patch on the rump of this chick (and other stronger colours on the wings etc ) I'm thinking that it may be cinnamon/ opaline ........If that's so does the red patch automatically mean male or could it be the opaline coming through ?? All I've got to do now is find room for the new kids on the block.............it's so hard to get rid of them isn't it Cheers Viraba

Here's the pic's as promised. The first ones are the red-fronted yellow Turqs. Very pretty birds I reckon. Here's the Red Rumps. Just a reminder that the Dad is a normal/ lutino/ cinnamon/ ??opaline (not sure about the last bit) and Mum is a cinnamon (don't know about any other splits for her ) I have 2 lutino hens like this one. Can't tell them apart. This is the cinnamon (maybe opaline cinnamon ??). Question is whether this is a hen or cock bird. If you have a real close look at the last photo you can see a small red patch developing on the rump between the wings. Question is whether this denotes a male or is it an opaline colouring ?? home.ripway.com/2004-11/197519/Cinnamon%20Rump2.jpg[/img] What do you think guys Cheers Viraba

It looks like you have a Cinnamon Cockbird there Viraba not an Opaline Cinnamon. You will find as it colours up more the head and the shoulder area will turn a light shade of blue and the red rump will become more promanent. John
